Refraction is a heavy scientific term. If you’re not ready for deep thought, no worries. Here’s the editor’s brief:
Refraction refers to a change in direction of energy; lots of different types of energy, like light, sound, and water. It most commonly occurs when a wave changes direction due to changing speed. We experience refraction all the time: rainbows, lens flares, and our exclusive swell. Now, I won’t explain that phenomenon, just that it highly influenced our name for it’s South Florida production of perfectly clean swell lines.
Now, as a source on creative surf culture, we also dip our toes into the areas of art, music, photography and design, which all use refraction in their own right. And, since the term can be as general as it is specific, we like to think that we refract words by taking ideas, facts, and stories and bouncing them back to you as something fresh. In summary, Refraction Magazine (that’s us), encompasses thoughts of energy, surf, art, and movement- a perfect representation of a purveyor of originality and promoter of local creatives.
